Spring Membership Meeting
April 5, 2003
CAWBA President Suda Bailey called the meeting to order at 10:08 AM at the lower level meeting room of Professor West Bowling Center. The Board and the membership recited the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a moment of silence for the troops serving our country in the war. Roll call of the officers and directors was as follows:

Rules of Meeting: (copies available to membership)
President Bailey asked 1st VP Beverly Ross to read the Rules of the Meeting, which outlined the process of addressing the dais and limiting the time allowed to make that address. Following the reading, the rules were approved after a motion by Vanessa Burks and a second by Mary Zahari.
Officer Reports:

Suda Bailey’s report highlighted the recent defeat of the Single Membership proposal by the ABC Annual Convention. She asked for a show of support/no support from the CAWBA membership, indicating that the CAWBA delegates would be following their direction when they voted on the Single Membership at the WIBC Annual Convention that will be held in Reno, NV in April. The membership indicated support for the proposal by a vote of 20 for and 9 against the passing. President Bailey reminded the members that the 2004 ASWBA Tournament would be held in Conway and Benton. She asked that the members be aware of the need for volunteers to help work and support that joint venture between Conway WBA and the CAWBA.
Secretary: Minutes of September 21, 2002 Membership Meeting (copies available to membership)
The membership approved the non-reading of the minutes as the reading committee with no changes has reviewed them. Typos had been noted and corrected. Doris Jenkins made the motion; Judy Burnett offered the second. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report: (written report available to members)
Joyce Morgan reported on the financial status of the association highlighting certain expenditures and gave details on the CD/Saving Account report. Debbie Kent made a motion to accept the financial report as given, subject to audit. Ann Wilkinson seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Officers - 5, Directors - 6, Life Members - 3, Member Emerita - 1, Members - 18, Guests - 1. Total to vote 33.
Committee Reports:
Reading Committee:
Laura Childress, Minutes reading Committee Chair reported on the Minutes of the April 6, 2002 Membership Meeting. No changes or additions were needed. Typos were noted.
CAWBA Local Tournament: (written report available)
Joyce Morgan, Tournament Director reported on the recent tournament that was held in Benton. She thanked the Board and the members for helping her with the tournament. She reported that next years tournament will be held at Sherwood Bowling Center and that if the new bowling centers sanctions with CAWBA, the tournament could possibly held there in 2005.
Legislative: (written report available)
Patti Thornton addressed the membership with 2 proposed Bylaw amendments that had been recommend by WIBC. She explained in detail what areas were being deleted and why the deletion was necessary. Proposed amendment #2: Delete: The requirements of a full term shall not apply to members of the Board of Directors currently holding office. Patti Thornton made the motion; Shirley Tipton made the second. Motion carried. Proposed amendment #3: Delete: Must be in attendance at the annual meeting at the time of nomination. Delete: In case of emergency, the President shall be empowered to grant an emergency absence in the event an eligible candidate for director or line officer may not be present at the election and accept the candidate for nomination as submitted. Patti Thornton made the motion; Donna Beyers made the second. Motion carried.
Hall of Fame (written report available)
Beverly Ross reported on the recent induction of Betty J. Smith and Mary Anna Dalske into the CAWBA Hall of Fame. Discussion and comments from the membership followed. She reminded the membership that the deadline for submitting a member/members for induction in 2004 was December 2003.
BVL (written report available)
Mavis Welsh reported on the BVL raffle held last November. She indicated that there are plans for another raffle in 2004. She reported on the winners of the bowling balls that had been donated by Robbie Abbott. The winners were Joyce Weeks of Fordyce and Jeremy Barsell of Sherwood.
Tournament Promotion (written report available)
Patti Thornton reported on what had been done as tournament promotion for the recent CAWBA Annual Tournament. She informed the membership of the leagues that had won $25.00 each for submitting the most teams from a league and submitting the most 1st time bowlers in the tournament. Most teams was the Tuesday Four League from Professor South and the most 1st time bowlers league was Benton’s 10 Pin Mixed League. Joyce Morgan also added that the Tuesday Four League had been winner of money every year since the CAWBA had begun giving it. Patti thanked all the members that had helped as lane monitors and also those that had worked the sales desk.
Pick-A-Kid Tournament (written report available)
In the absence of Cindy Covert, Beverly Ross read the report that had been sent by Cindy.
Membership Development
Laura Childress reported that she would be calling a meeting shortly of the members that had sign up to help with ideas about increasing membership.
Newsletter/Publicity (written report available)
Evelyn Smith reported that in the absence of a by-line, the newsletter scheduled for publication in January had been postponed. She again, asked the members for assistance in locating stories that might be of interest to put in the newsletter. Suda Bailey reported that the Board had discussed the newsletter issue and was in favor of dropping the number of issues each year to two, rather than three. She asked the membership for discussion on the issue. After discussion, Mary Zahari made a motion to have the newsletter published two (2) times a year. Adelma Hunter made the second. The motion carried.
Ways and Means (written report available)
Laura Childress reported on the sale and raffle of items at the recent CAWBA Tournament. She indicated that sales were good and the 50/50 raffle was profitable also. She thanked all the CAWBA members that assisted in "manning" the sales table at the tournament.
CAYABA (written report available)
Doris Jenkins reported on the activities of the youth bowling program. She updated the members on the tournaments being bowled and the winners of scholarships. She invited the members to come and bowl with the kids over the summer and asked for support in the youth programs as the kids our the future of our sport.
Benton YABA (written report available)
Donna Beyers read a report submitted by Carol Foughty, the secretary of the Benton YABA. The report thanked the CAWBA for the donation made to that program and indicated that it would be used for their scholarship program.
ASWBA Senior Tournament (written report available)
Beverly Ross read the report as Reba had recent eye surgery. The report thanked the women that had help with the hospitality room. It also listed the winners of each class division. Local ladies had bowled several great scores and they were mentioned also. Joyce Morgan informed that a local bowler, Edith Huey would be replacing the Class A winner in Reno, as the winner would not be able to attend.
Theresa Kelone Tournament
Thelma Baham, Tournament Director reported on the upcoming TK Classic Tournament that will be held at Professor South on the first two-week ends of June. She informed the membership that 400 entries had been mailed to previous participants and right now, she was just waiting for the entries to come back. She passed around a sign up sheet for workers for that tournament among the membership.
Janeen Solida Scholarship Tournament (written report available)
In the absence of Peggy Cromwell, Debbie Kent reported the tentative schedule for the tournament is July 26-27, 2003. More information would be available after negotiations have been worked out with Enterprise Lanes.

Each of the reps reported on the leagues, high scores and special/unique happenings of each center. President Bailey thanked the reps for the information and relayed the appreciation of the Board for them being house reps.
Correspondence
President Bailey read notes from Mary Anna Dalske and Betty J. Smith thanking the association for their recent induction into the CAWBA Hall of Fame.
Unfinished Business/New Business
Liz Hamilton poised a question and concern to the Board about bowling etiquette and the need for more information to be made available to bowlers on that subject. Discussion followed and information was shared about a pamphlet/book offered by WIBC concerning bowling etiquette. Joyce Morgan said that she would contact WIBC and inquire about getting some material that can be distributed to the league secretaries on bowling etiquette.
President Bailey informed the membership of a vacant position on the Board. She asked any of the women that might be interested in being appointed to that position, to please contact her after the meeting to discuss the vacancy.

In the absence of Bev Versier, Chair of the committee, President Bailey appointed Adelma Hunter to present the candidates for election.

Donna Beyers, incumbent had submitted her resume for the position. President Bailey requested nominations from the floor. No nominations were given. With no opposition, Beverly Ross made a motion to elect Donna Beyers by acclamation and Vanessa Burks, seconded that motion. Motion carried.

Evelyn Smith, incumbent had submitted her resume for the position. President Bailey requested nominations from the floor. No nominations were given. With no opposition, Mary Zahari made a motion to elect Evelyn Smith by acclamation and Joyce Morgan seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Director # 6
Ann Wilkinson, CAWBA member had submitted her resume for the position. President Bailey requested nominations from the floor. No nominations were given. With no opposition, Doris Jenkins made a motion to elect Ann Wilkinson for the position of Director #6. Judy Burnette seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Director #7
Patti Thornton, incumbent has submitted her resume for the position. President Bailey requested nominations from the floor. No nominations were given. With no opposition, Donna Beyers made a motion to elect Patti Thornton by acclamation and Debbie Kent seconded the motion. Motion carried,
Laura Childress requested the floor to thank Reba Abbott, Director #6 for all the hard work and time that she has put in during her tenor on the CAWBA Board. The entire CAWBA Board and the membership thanked Reba with a standing ovation.
Election of Delegates to the 2004 WIBC Convention in Wichita, KS
Eight nominations were needed for: 4 Delegates and 4 Alternates
Nominations from the floor were received on Laura Childress, Patti Thornton, Judy Burnett, Debbie Kent, Ann Wilkinson, Marian Ainsworth, Evelyn Smith and Beverly Ross.

Local Tournament Awards Presentation
Joyce Morgan, Tournament Director, presented the local tournament winners that were in attendance with the awards. She informed the membership that because of having to order checks, which had not arrived yet, the prize money distribution had been delayed. She assured them that as soon as the checks arrive they would be printed and sent out. The awards to the winners that had not been presented at the meeting will be taken to the bowlers at the local centers.
